After writing in snatches, here and there, whenever I had the time or energy, I’ve been able to do a print run of a book that I’ve titled ‘The Throwbacks’.
It’s about the way the modern church has, for the most part, lost its way and needs to go backwards: back to the way the first church understood things like repentance, faith, baptism, being filled with the Holy Spirit, being part of the church, and running the race until the end.
In my crucial years of growing up and reckoning with the gospel, there were a few books that helped me to understand God and life and myself. They weren’t simply bullet-point textbooks or theological theses - they told stories, painted pictures, conveyed a sense of something. That’s the type of book I’ve tried to write. I don’t presume to have come anywhere near to those who made such an impact on me, but I trust this book will be an encouragement and a help to anyone who truly wants to follow Jesus in this generation.
